Year 7
During Year 7 our students will undertake 3 modules of work. The students will be taught in specialist rooms by specialist staff and will involve development of designing and making skills. In Food they will learn about healthy eating and make a number of recipes. In the architecture module they will learn how to use CAD software and design skills to design a building for a given local site. In Product Design the focus will be on mastering making skills using key equipment such as the disc sander, hand tools, pillar drill etc. They will make a variety of practical tasks such as a keyring, pencil holder, egg cup and coat hook.

Year 8
During Year 8 our students will undertake 3 modules of work. The students will be taught in specialist rooms by specialist staff and will develop skills learnt in year 7 whilst learning new techniques to ensure they demonstrate good progression. In Food they will develop their cooking skills and make a number of recipes. In the short Product Design module, they will make bookends, an egg cup and a nightlight. In the extended Product Design module, they will make a wooden stool, a prototype of a design classic and undertake a creative design task. The focus will be on learning about plastics, electronics and also sustainability in design.

Year 9
During Year 9 students will undertake 3 modules in specialist areas with specialist teachers. In these modules they will follow the design process to design and make creative outcomes. They will be taught knowledge that links to some of the Design and technology GCSE courses that they can then opt for next year. In one Product Design module they will have a choice to design and make either a product to store/display letters and keys or a product to store kitchen utensils for the kitchen. In Food they will cook a number of recipes and in the second Product Design module they will undertake a variety of small creative design tasks whilst also making a bottle opener.
