Ysgol Penglais School Sixth Form offers comprehensive provision for 250 students aged 16 – 19 years. We offer a friendly, dynamic and inspiring environment for learning. There is an experienced and specialist team who support and advise individual students daily. Students enroll from a variety of secondary schools and settle in quickly.

Ysgol Penglais School Sixth Form will influence how you engage with society. Whilst studying at Ysgol Penglais School you will be encouraged to make a difference and develop leadership skills.

Teachers at Ysgol Penglais School are experienced and have deep subject knowledge. Specialist staff will inspire and encourage you to enquire and discover in your chosen subjects.

Students at Ysgol Penglais School achieve excellent exam results and attend universities the length and breadth of Britain, Europe and United States of America.

Our enrichment programme will encourage your independence, maturity and leadership skills. You can become involved in a broad range of roles and events within school, between schools and in community / national events. These experiences will give you the skills and confidence to contribute to the wider community. There are many leadership opportunities: subject specific, clubs, debate group, community projects, fundraising activities, voluntary and work experience. Year 13 can apply for one of the many prefect roles.

Ysgol Penglais School has many links with outside agencies e.g. Aberystwyth University for UCAS advice and study skills. There are links with Aber Instruments who provide interview and careers advice. We are also part of the Seren network which supports the brighter Sixth Formers to achieve their academic potential and gain access to leading universities.

Ysgol Penglais School Sixth Form will be preparing you to move on to university, college or a career of your choice. You will be supported by a team of specialist teachers and advisors who will enable you to take the next step. There are opportunities to participate in university visits, interview practice and work experience.

We have a high percentage of students who are members of the Seren Network and our students have great success in achieving Oxbridge and Russell group university experiences. Students are also successful when applying for university placements in Britain and the USA through Sutton Trust / Fulbright organization.

Sixth Form students have their own purpose-built block. The Sixth form Centre contains two large communal rooms for social and academic activities. The quiet study area has a suite of computers available for students to use to support their studies. The downstairs study room is a communal area where students can socialize and study. The students are responsible for the day to day running of the center and the sixth form prefects work hard to make the Sixth form Centre a welcoming and comfortable area for social and academic activities. It is open from 8am to 6pm for use by the sixth form students.

Subjects

An outstanding feature of our Sixth Form is the wide range of subject options, offering appropriate learning pathways for students of different aptitudes. Students benefit from a broad range of AS and A2 courses including some vocation based courses.

In Year 12, students with at least 5 GCSEs at C grade or better will choose to study 4 subjects and the Welsh Baccalaureate. Teachers will advise students on their suitability for their chosen courses.
