It is with great pleasure I welcome you to Ysgol Penglais School.
Ysgol Penglais School is a happy, ambitious and high-achieving school where everyone is respected and valued. We have high expectations of ourselves and each other, both as students and staff, and we continually drive to achieve our very best.
Ensuring that our students learn as much as possible is central to us and therefore we place a great emphasis on developing our staff. We are a research-based school, ensuring that any teaching and learning development is rooted in research. Combined with the very experienced staff, who have a high level of subject knowledge and understanding of how students learn, this enables us to provide challenging, creative and inspirational learning experiences for our students. The outcomes of our students at GCSE and A Levels, and the pathways many choose to take, exemplifies the excellent experiences they have had in the school.
We are a very comprehensive school, serving Aberystwyth and many areas within and beyond Ceredigion. This produces a great energy within the school which provides our students with a range of opportunities. Our pastoral care and inclusion within the school is excellent and helps support all of our students to achieve well. We also offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities which enables our students to experience success in many aspects of their lives, socially as well as academically. We aim to develop well-rounded and happy individuals who are well qualified to become successful citizens of their local communities, Wales and the world.
Ysgol Penglais School is a school that is at the very heart of the community and we aim to work closely with all ventures within the Aberystwyth and wider community. Collaboration brings many opportunities and we seek out occasions when we can work with local community members to support our students as well as the community.
I am very proud to be the Headteacher at Ysgol Penglais School and I look forward to working with everyone to develop Penglais into a truly outstanding school.
